6352
DOUGLAS
Created for TwinsTwins, installation at Soo
Visual Arts Center,
September 11 - November 3, 2002
Project Description
The installation 6352 Douglas evolved out
of extensive correspondence and collaboration
with my identical twin sister. Together, we
synthesized many of the nuances of growing
up as twins, looking at issues of identity,
compromise, tension, and synchronicity.
Artist
statement
We lived in a house on top of a hill between
a schoolyard and a family of bullies. We lived
between gates overgrown with mulberries and
roses, sandwiched by the longest streets in
the city, and blocks away from a network of
trails. Our favorite toys were boxes, bricks,
each other.
